Eventually, each of us is going to have two jobs: caregiver and caretaker. The first focuses on the physical care of a loved one; the latter carries an emphasis on shepherding their legacy.

That is, if we’re loved — and lucky to live long enough.

True, the hours are long and the work is tough. No, the “pay” can’t be measured in dollars and cents, but the rewards are steeped in “value.”

In the final analysis, isn’t one’s demonstrated value more important than one’s résumé or bank account?
